Citriodora Oil also known as Lemon eucalyptus oil is derived from Eucalyptus Citriodora plant that belongs to the Eucalyptus family, Myrtaceae. The plant is widely cultivated in different countries like India, Egypt, Spain and South Africa. This lemon-scented eucalyptus oil is primarily used in the treatment of migraine, rheumatism, wounds, inflammation, bacterial and fungal infections. Obtained from the leaves of Eucalyptus tree this oil has powerful antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Hence Citriodora oil is primarily used for relieving coughs and colds, sore throats and other infections.

The strong lemony fragrance of the oil along with the anti-bacterial property makes it suitable for the treatment of bronchitis, colds, flu, sinus problems and throat infections. The Eucalyptus oil vapor is also used as a decongestant and treatment for bronchitis. With a strong Camphoraceous aroma the oil has various chemical compounds namely eucalyptol, piene, limonene, linalool and alpha-terpenol. The oil contains Eucalyptol as a major ingredient that is used in some mouthwash and dental preparations. This oil is used to prepare an endodontic solvent Listerine that is excellent for mouth rinse. It is a combination of essential oils eucalyptol, menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, which has been shown to be efficacious for the reduction of dental plaque and gingivitis.

Adults can consume Citriodora Oil at low dosage or they can be used in pharmaceutical products at the recommended rate. However it is commonly suggested not to exceed the prescribed dosage as this may result in systemic toxicity.
